Entering Canada

Depending on your nationality you may need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada – not both. US citizens only require their valid passport.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there may be restrictions based on vaccination status for all travellers entering Canada. Please consult the following link. You must also have the ArriveCAN app active on your cellphone ahead of travel. This will minimize delays related to Covid-19 vaccination status and testing. Click here for complete information.

Please follow this protocol:

1. Learn what travels documents are required:

https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp

2a.  If you require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), follow the link provided which should go here:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta/apply.html

The cost of an eTA is $CDN 7.00. Beware of fake websites offering services at increased costs.

2b. If you require a Visitor Visa, follow the link provided which should go here:

Obtaining a Visa to enter Canada is the responsibility of the participants. We can assist by issuing an invitation letter, however, we cannot be an authority on Visa issues, nor can we help with expediting the Visa process. Invitation letters will be issued for registered participants who fully paid the conference registration fees. You/your accompanying persons must be registered participant/s to be considered for an invitation letter. To avoid any delays, we encourage all those who need a visa to enter Canada, to register as early as possible and apply for the visa.

Please email isocs29@uoguelph.ca to request a letter in support of your visa application. Be sure to provide 1. The address of your workplace/institution; 2. Your date of birth; 3. Your residential address and phone number; 4. Your mobile phone number;  5. Your travels plans including length of stay in Canada    in the email request.
